What is your name and where are you from?
Hi, my name is Sherry Woodworth! I was born and raised in Jamestown, N.Y; and have lived most of my adult life in Orange County, CA.
Please describe your background
Growing up, I lived in a small town, a predominantly white community. Even though during these times, race relations were difficult, I was able to take advantage of possibilities, activities that should have been closed to me... even winning the Junior Miss Program - a scholarship program for high school seniors. I attended college in Indiana when I had the opportunity to travel internationally, and nationally in a singing group representing and recruiting for the college. A few years after graduating I got married. Eventually, I moved to Southern California with my husband and son. The move to California opened doors for me to become involved in praise and worship for a large women’s ministry, and also to be a small group leader for Christian leaders and Speakers Seminar Organization.
List one experience you’ve had in Connect group that started it all for you, or resonates with you the most.
The first time I attended Connect Group, there was such freedom the whole time, but for me especially during the worship. There was no hindrance to sing “a new song” to the Lord - which I love doing. Having that freedom increased intimacy with the Lord… more experiences of His presence and closeness, even while connected to others in the worship experience.
If you had the entire world’s attention, and knew that every living person on Earth would hear you, what would you say?
I would say:
“Before the world was formed, God knew you. He purposed and planned for you. You have always been in His heart of love before He placed you in the Earth. He knew you before He formed you. You are His workmanship - you are a creative expression of His hand and heart to do amazing things in the earth, to be an integral part of bringing His good will into the Earth, to bring His kingdom from heaven into Earth - into our everyday lives for everyday people.”
If you were brand new to Connect Groups what is one thing you would tell yourself?
If I were brand new to Connect Groups I would tell myself - be free to be the unique individual you are and in doing so touch other lives and develop a sense of family with them… learning to love others, learning to love God.
What led you to get involved in Connect Groups and what made you stay?
Getting involved in Connect Groups for me, was a result of a desire to connect and develop real relationships with others in the body of Christ. I didn’t want surface relationships - I wanted strong, deep relationships. Connect Groups have definitely provided this for me.
How has your life been impacted through Connect Groups?
The thing that has impacted me about Connect Groups is the caring and sharing of others with me and me with others. Through this exchange there is a greater sense of how much God really loves me and cares for me.
Discuss how you have grown as a person because of Connect Groups?
Because of Connect Groups I have grown in strength in my relationship with God and in relation with other members of the Body of Christ. We are all joined together to help increase and strengthen each other. This is important to me because after my husband passed away, I lost connection with the church I was involved with at the time. So for quite a while I was disconnected and wanting. Now that wanting has been filled and the connection secure since being involved in Connect Groups.
How do you see yourself helping others through Connect Groups in the near future?
I see myself helping others through connect groups by continuing to be me, by continuing to share and care.
In your own words describe the heart behind the ministry.
The heart of Connect Groups is learning to love God, by first learning to love others as we love ourselves. Connect groups help you to love yourself. Through loving ourselves and others we can love God and we can love life! The mission of CHC!
